Mugs & Mugshots makes original mugshot, rap-sheet and crime-culture art, and prints it on things you actually use — coffee mugs, t-shirts, hoodies, posters and wall art.

The whole category is crowded with the same five serial-killer shirts. We went a different direction: the booking photo itself. The height chart, the case number, the flat institutional lighting, the expression of a person having a very bad Tuesday. It is one of the most recognisable visual formats in American culture and almost nobody is designing for it properly.

How we work

• Made to order. Nothing is printed until you buy it. No warehouse full of dead stock, no landfill at the end of the season.
• Printed on demand in the United States. Most orders are produced at US facilities and ship from there.
• Small catalogue, on purpose. We would rather have forty designs worth owning than four thousand generated overnight.

Who this is for

True crime listeners. People who quote Goodfellas unprompted. Defence attorneys with a sense of humour. Anyone who wants their coffee mug to say something.

The line we do not cross

We make art about crime culture — the mythology, the aesthetic, the dark comedy of it. We do not glorify violence and we do not profit from anyone's tragedy. If a design would make a real victim's family feel worse, it does not get made.
